Headphones really do wonders for the musical experience. I have been hearing a lot of London singer Hannah Yadi and her demo Guillotine, but I never really thought much of the song. But then this morning with my headphones on and coffee in hand, I came across her Demo once again and decided to give it a listen. Turns out I need to listen on my headphones more often rather than these mediocre computer speakers. The raw emotion of Yadi’s vocals are quite apparent in this track, with similarities to Marina and the Diamonds. It’s a cheery pop anthem, that I’m sure many of you will enjoy.

I’m going to have to change my underwear. There is a small chance I just found my favourite album of 2010. Yes, that’s saying a lot… but I don’t really care. I had first heard a Ceo (Eric Berglund of Tough Alliance) track back at the end of May, and paid little attention to it as I do most new songs I hear. But today I decided I’d check out the album after hearing a lot about them. It’s a powerful pure pop prowess (now that’s an alliteration!) behind this , and its fantastic. It’s a little bit chillwave with a mix of Passion Pit and a hell of a lot of Delorean. It’s the beach after 6 beers and a joint with the urge to dance however you want. It’s not for everyone, but it does me right.

“Come With Me”

Everything Is Gonna Be Alright” (Bonus Track)

Or you could just call it post-chillwave.

My lack of posts lately will result into one massive, super-post with a shit load of tunes that I’ve being going mad for. Read on my friends, read on.

Black Belles
In my eyes, Jack White can do no wrong, and he has confirmed my belief with the discover of The Black Belles. It seems as though Jack as found 4 ladies that are the female version of him, well, at least the sound just like the White Stripes, which I believe to be fantastic. So take a listen to their lead single ‘What Can I Do’ off their forthcoming album.

Baby Monster

Big Stereo, one of my favourite music blogs has decided to follow in the footsteps of Neon Gold, and turn themselves into a record label. The have picked Baby Monster to launch the start of their label. I’m not sure I can even begin to explain the extreme love I have for this song, it makes me ‘come alive’. Bad jokes aside, She Comes Alive’ is an enchanting track that is going to make you want to do nothing but dance, dance, dance.

A friend of mine recently introduced me to the musical stylings of her friend Christina Maria. Christina is with out a doubt an artist that I am sure you will be hearing more of in the new future. Hailing from Vancouver Christina Maria released her album on February 15th. Here’s her video for her single ‘Straight Lines’.

yes giantess

Yes Giantess have released, yet another fantastic track. It may just be the best track to come out yet this year. Starsmith, the pop producer behind the fantastic Ellie Gouliding track ‘Under The Sheets‘. Starsmiths pop influences are easily heard on this upbeat, hypnotizing track.

Go on

El Perro del Mar

I’m almost pissed off that I haven’t heard about this little cream puff of musical delight. El Perro del Mar (translation: The Dog From the Sea) a.k.a. Sarah Assbring has been making these beautiful sounds since 2003. YES 2003, and I only just discovered her. Sarah released her 4th album Love Is Not Pop this past October in the US and April in the UK. El Perro del Mar is a soft melodic pop delight, allowing you to float on a cloud and feel no worries. It honestly makes me feel like I’m in a dream world, and everything is in slow motion, white and peaceful. Sarah is somewhat reminiscent of Lykke Li, which of course is fantastic.  I realize that I sound like a complety hippie right now, but I’m telling you this album will make you happy. If not, you’re most likely the devil. Just saying.

Here’s a little sample for ya,

It’s burning.

Been a little slow on the writing front lately, but we won’t get involved in my personal life. Lets get to the music!

Monarchy, possibly the most intriguing new group to surface (due to the lack of any information as to who they are..) have released a new track for your audio pleasure. “The Phoenix Alive” does not disappoint with this track, continuing on with the stellar, moving, and captivating sounds.

Check it out!

What’s next?

I find that come the end of the year the blogosphere is flooded with “Best of” lists, which are great if you’re in a nostalgic mood and all.. Unfortunately thats not how I feel about 2009, it’s been a less than favorable year for me. So in the spirit of great expectations we have the albums/artists I am looking forward to in 2010. Most of these artists I’ve talked about in the last couple weeks, but a recap can’t hurt. Be sure to check out BBC’s Sound of 2010 for more great artists on the rise.

So here we have it, in no particular order:

Fyfe Dangerfield

Guillemots lead, Fyfe Dangerfield is scheduled to come out with his debut album Fly Yellow Moon in January 2010. After hearing ‘When You Walk Into The Room‘ and ‘She Needs Me‘, I expect nothing short of amazing.

Penguin Prison

New York native Chris Glover a.k.a. Penguin Prison has provided us with 2 lead tracks and some killer remixes. No confirmation yet of whether or not there will be a full length album, but I suspect that there is something in the works. If not Penguin Prison is some music you’re going to want to keep your eyes on this coming year, only more to come.

There is still little known about UK due Monarchy, but we can expect the single release come February from our favourite Neon Gold. There is no doubt that this pair has more work up their sleeves, we’re just going to have to be patient and wait to hear more.

Ellie Goulding

Ellie released her EP earlier this year which give us a small sample of what she’s capable of. I predict that in 2010 we’re going to hear a full length LP from her. With the backings of producers Starsmith, I am sure this pop starlet will give us something worth looking forward to.

Vampire Weekend

I may have a soft spot for Vampire Weekend after seeing them in concert back in August ’08 at the amazing Pemberton festival. Either way, after the release of their singles Cousins & Horchata, it’s clear that ‘Contra’ will be a great follow up to their debut album.

After great commercial success with ‘Oracular Spectacular’ back in ’08, MGMT is set to release a new LP ‘Congratulations’ in the spring of 2010. It will be interesting to see how VanWyngarden and Goldwasser follow up to their debut album.

Arcade Fire

Fellow Canadians, Arcade Fire have done well with there previous albums ‘Neon Bible’ and ‘Funeral’ and are expected to release a new album early 2010. Working with producers from Neon Bible, there is no doubt that this next LP will live up to their past releases.

The Limousines

With the release of their EP ‘The Scrapbook’, The Limousines are leaving much to be desired. There is no news on whether or not the duo is working on a full length LP for the new year, but it can be expected to hear some new sounds coming from this California pair.

‘Odd Blood’, Yeasayer‘s sophomore album is due out February 09, 2010. The album has already been leaked out just a few days ago, but I, myself am resisting the urge to download the album. With another 2 months to go I am sure that Yeasayer is going to be working hard to perfect the album.

Marina & The Diamonds

Her videos alone get my excited for her debut album “The Family Jewels”. After a great release of Marina Diamandis 2nd EP with Neon Gold earlier this year, you can be sure to hear some great tunes from this vixen.

Sleigh Bells

When I first heard Sleigh Bells EP, I was completely floored. I can only hope that they reproduce that sound into a new and full length LP for our enjoyment. I am making the assumption that there will be more to hear from this Brooklyn duo, but it’s more so a wish..

We could all use a little sunshine.

Delorean is like a breath of fresh air. If you’re looking for something to dance to, clean to, sing to, you should probably check out their EP Ayrton Senna (all tracks listed below). There is little information out there about Delorean(not to be confused with the hard-rock band), but the group is a fantastic pop foursome hailing from Spain.  This is a sunny representation of music, with rock roots and heavy piano layers, creating an extremely uplifting sound. I am a firm believer that music is a direct influence on your mood, and can, in extreme cases, change your life. That being said, I’m not about to say that this EP will change your life, but it will change your state of mind. It will make you stand up and smile, and if it doesn’t make you move just a little bit.. well, I think something is wrong with you.
