Zambri

This is far too good to pass up. Like, call up your mom good and say “Hey mom, I heard this amazing band, and you HAVE to listen to them” but then you realize that your mom would much rather listen to Neil Young than a young pop band from Brooklyn. Zambri consists of 2 sisters with lead vocals and a couple boys in the back to support. Pretty sure they are nothing short of amazing. You’ll like them, trust me. They sound like a fusion of Tegan & Sara meets Sleigh Bells. Which I’m not sure is the perfect comparison but it works in my head. Providing us with beautiful pop melodies, infectious synth beats, captivating guitars, and an overall fantastic sound Zambri will give you some tracks to put at the top of your play lists. Have I built them up enough? Try and contain yourselves when listening to these tracks, and don’t be surprised if you hear this remix in the clubs soon.

via audio

Anyone that knows me, knows that can’t resist a good dance track. And anyone that reads this blogs knows that every 2nd post is a dance track. So not to disappoint here comes another head bopping, dance around with your dog even though it hates it, track.

Via Audio is a funk infused pop electronic indie band that probably won’t disappoint. The Brooklyn quartet formed back in 2004 after they met at college. They released their first album Say Something in 2007. Working with drummer Jim Eno of Spoon, they are releasing their sophomore album on March 9th. Check out “Babies” from the upcoming album. Try not to convulse.

the knife

The Knife has become quite infamous within the last decade, even gaining commercial exposure (despite their blatant disregard for the media) when Jose Gonzalez covered their track ‘Heartbeats’. The past few years they have been distant, while Kain released her album under Fever Ray. To the surprise of many, The Knife has given us a late Christmas present with the revealing of “Colouring of Pigeons”, an operatic and haunting song. Giving us something slightly unexpected, yet still classically Knife. Like always, this track is best played at full volume capacity.

Really..really…REALLY?

El Perro del Mar

I’m almost pissed off that I haven’t heard about this little cream puff of musical delight. El Perro del Mar (translation: The Dog From the Sea) a.k.a. Sarah Assbring has been making these beautiful sounds since 2003. YES 2003, and I only just discovered her. Sarah released her 4th album Love Is Not Pop this past October in the US and April in the UK. El Perro del Mar is a soft melodic pop delight, allowing you to float on a cloud and feel no worries. It honestly makes me feel like I’m in a dream world, and everything is in slow motion, white and peaceful. Sarah is somewhat reminiscent of Lykke Li, which of course is fantastic.  I realize that I sound like a complety hippie right now, but I’m telling you this album will make you happy. If not, you’re most likely the devil. Just saying.

Here’s a little sample for ya,

This is a track I have been listening to for almost exactly a year now (weird), and I haven’t got sick of it. It’s one of my most played tracks on iTunes, so I thought I would share it with you guys. Needless to say, it’s pretty fucking fantastic.

headphones

Silversun Pickups are great little rock quartet from L.A. they are also nominated for a Grammy this year for “Best New Artist” which seems a bit strange since they were moderately successful before the release of the current album Swoon. As a mater of fact the song below Lazy Eye is from their first album. But this track is remixed by DJ & producer Curtis Vodka, whom I haven’t heard much else from besides his other remix of The Temper Trap’s ‘Sweet Disposition’ (which is also fantastic, I might add)

This is one of those tracks that gets me so excited every time I hear it. You know that the climax is building and when you get there.. ahhh, fantastic. Anyway, PLEASE put your headphones on for this, I promise a much greater experience.

I’ve been a little slow with the postings lately, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have obscene amounts of music I’m wanting to share. More so overwhelmed with them all, not knowing which to write about first.

elvis perkins in dearland

Elvis Perkins in Dearland gives us a fantastic range of sounds, incorporate many of the great rock n roll stylings. This is the second album from Elvis Perkins, but his first with his back up band. In regards to his first album, Perkins stated “I’d no interest in making Ash Wednesday II. After the dust had settled I was weary, worn and confused about what had happened, especially that people thought it was so personal. I had a talk with myself as to how I might deal with things second time around. Part of this involved making a band record removed from self and giving three other dudes a say. It’s a broader vision.” I think that was a wise choice on his part. The tracks on this EP are great, and provide the perfect setting for a chill night at home, or drinks with friends. I may be a little behind with the release of this album, but my friends elsewhere in the blog-world have been praising it for months. Grab a bourbon, sit back and listen to the great sounds of Elvis Perkins

Hey

Fuck I love the harmonica! Pretty sure any band should feature a harmonica, I know my band would. If I had one..

HURTS
For some reason I have an extreme fondness of the 80’s. My theory is that it’s because I was born in the 80’s but not early enough to experience them, ergo I have a connection to anything 80’s. I am sure that anyone that actually lived through the 80’s and remembers it probably hates me for posting all these 80’s inspired musicians. Either way I’m not going to stop it. I’m also a giant sap. The song ‘Wonderful Life’ by HURTS just puts me in one of those moods. As we know I am a firm believer that music should affect you, on more than one level. It’s nice to hear a song that is telling a story, and isn’t just the same repetitive verse about love. Anyway, I’m not exactly sure how to describe this song, besides the fact that its super 80’s. This song is going to be touch and go, and probably half of you will hate it. Regardless, for the other half that will like it, here you are!
